Overview
Kindred of Rot is an optional duo boss encounter found in Seethewater Cave in Elden Ring. The arena contains two Kindred of Rot at the same time, making target management and spacing more important than simply overpowering one enemy.
The encounter is reached at the end of Seethewater Cave, an optional dungeon in the Mt. Gelmir region. Unlike a single large boss, Kindred of Rot places two smaller humanoid pests in the arena together. Their size gives them a lower visual profile than many major bosses, so keeping both enemies in view is important when choosing whether to attack, heal, or retreat.
The main difficulty comes from fighting two mobile opponents in a restricted space. One Kindred of Rot can pressure the player at close range while the other creates an additional threat from a different angle. A player who focuses entirely on one target can be interrupted by the second enemy, so the safest approach is to control the pair's distance and avoid standing between them.
Kindred of Rot's attacks include quick melee pressure and pest-based ranged or area attacks. The encounter therefore punishes a purely stationary strategy: remaining close for too long gives the duo repeated opportunities to surround the player, while rolling backward without watching the arena can leave the player open to the other Kindred of Rot.
The reward for defeating the pair is Kindred of Rot's Exultation, a talisman associated with poison and rot-related combat effects. This makes the encounter particularly relevant to characters using poison, Scarlet Rot, or a broader status-effect build, although the fight is optional and does not need to be completed to continue the main progression of Elden Ring.
